It’s part of every love story.
Usually there is a point in any romance novel that brings a character face to face with heartbreak. Not just feeling low or disappointed. No, this is much more than that. It’s a feeling as if the heart in their chest is breaking in half and may never mend. That’s more the kind of situation most romances include – pity though it may be.
This could be the lead character, or one of the minor characters, but whomever it may be they are at the point of despair and feeling as though they’re staring down the devil himself before they get past this experience.
No, it usually is not, unless you are one of the rare romance writers who prefers tearjerkers. I don’t think they’d be very popular because most people turn to romances for that boost of hope and that infusion of happiness – even if it’s someone else’s hope and happiness, it still hits home.
So there could still be light at the end of that tunnel. But Lord have mercy on the soul going through that tunnel because it’s a dark, murky place with all kinds of things from the past jumping out of nowhere.
How it can be resolved.
Well, that’s not an easy thing to accomplish. Because the person who’s been hurt isn’t likely to want to see, hear, speak to or even speak about the one who caused this heartbreak to happen. So that particular lead will have a tough climb up a steep mountainside to get back into the good graces of the wounded lover.
Most of the time, the two do manage to make it all right again and find a way to be together. And then other times they do find love elsewhere. It depends on how the wheel of fortune ends up turning in the romance novel you’re reading.
